Wear your pearls at least semi-often!! They were born in the water and benefit from absorbing the oils that your skin naturally secretes throughout the day.
After EVERY wear, take a soft cloth and gently wipe them down.
Keep pearls away from chlorine bleach, hydrogen peroxide, vinegar, ammonia, etc, as these substances will damage the pearl surface.
Store pearls on a flat surface to avoid potential stretching from happening.
Always keep your pearls separated from hard jewelry items such as rings or bracelets to prevent them from being scratched.
Pearls do best in a moist environment, so keep pearls away from direct sunlight to prevent damage from UV rays. Extreme heat can dry out your pearls leading to cracking.
